Community Relations Representative

Job Summary

The Community Relations Representative builds relationships with various healthcare providers such as nursing facilities, hospitals, physician’s offices, etc. in order to grow our hospice patient base.

 

Qualifications  

  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.  
  • Must be self-directed; able to work without the direct presence of a supervisor.  
  • Must have a strong sense of initiative and passion for developing relations.  
  • Must believe in the value of the services and develop your unique way to present hospice features and benefits.

 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities  

  • Participate actively in sales meetings, attend in-services, read and study.  
  • Know the Four Levels of Care (Home Care, Respite Care, Inpatient Care, Continuous Care) 
  • Know the product and service (Medicare Benefit, CMS Rules and Regulations). 
  • Know what a clinically appropriate patient is.  
  • Know the roles of all your team members (Team MD, RN, LVN, Health Aide, Medical Social Worker, Spiritual Counselor).   
  • Know our hospice’s services and which differentiate us in the community.  
  • Continuously learn about and build rapport with the various physician practices, hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living communities and then the individuals within these referral sources. 
  • Set objectives for every call and visit.  Plan what is to be accomplished for each one and then follow-through.  
  • Must be intimately familiar with and comfortable with the sales triangle/process and how to effectively implement each part for hospice: profiling, opening, establishing rapport, questioning, listening, presenting features and benefits, handling objections and closing. 
  • Provides and/or coordinates agency sponsored educational opportunities and presentations.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through networking, membership in professional organizations and continuing education.

 
Other Non-Physical Requirements 

  • Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and company requirements and in good working order.  
  • Must furnish own cell phone; plan must include texting. 

 
Working Conditions  

  • May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents/patients, family members, personnel, and visitors.
  • May be exposed to minor hazards/communicable diseases.
  • Physically active walking, standing, bending, lifting, and climbing stairs. 
  • Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.  
  • There may be a fluctuating workload with periods of stress and deadlines.  
  • Frequent travel is required; up to several hours of driving per day.  
  • Exposure to variable weather conditions is likely.  
  • General office environment is favorable; lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
